Our Story

Koiniva began as a student idea and grew through research, community feedback, and a shared commitment to helping local aquariums.

2024

From an Idea to an App

Nikolas and Ian brainstormed the app during the summer. In the fall, as they were entering seventh grade, Nikolas began developing the first version.

2025

Research and Community Feedback

Nikolas and Ian presented the idea to the school community and conducted market research. Ian contacted hundreds of aquariums to ask for feedback and better understand what they needed.

2026

Learning, Growing, and Becoming Koiniva

We presented what we had learned about local aquariums to the school community. Through that process, we gained a clearer understanding of their needs and how the app could support them. The project was also rebranded from Save the Waves to Koiniva.
